A Manchester woman drove drunk when she hit a car and fled the scene with her 10-year-old daughter in the vehicle, authorities said Saturday.
Wendy Soden, 45, was charged with driving while intoxicated and
endangering the welfare of a child after the left the scene of a crash in Toms River on Friday night, Manchester police Chief Lisa Parker said.
Toms River police contacted Manchester authorities after the crash and said they suspected the driver who hit a car and then fled was in Manchester, Parker said.
Manchester police Officer Michael Guarino found the car in town and made contact with Soden at a Hudson Parkway home in the Whiting section of town, Parker said. While he was dealing with Soden, Guarino determined that her ability to operate a car was impaired because of alcohol consumption, the chief said. Authorities also determined that Soden had her 10-year-old daughter in the car when the collision occurred and when she drove to Hudson Parkway, Parker said.
Soden was taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River in lieu of $20,000 bail, she said.
