A 65-year-old man is recovering in the hospital on Sunday after he was struck by a vehicle Friday night, police said.
The man, whose identity has not been released, is from Spring Valley, N.Y., and was walking in the area of Route 9 and Finchley Boulevard when he was hit by a vehicle around 6:15 p.m., Lakewood police Patrolman Erik Menck said.
The victim, who is currently in critical condition, was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune to be treated for a "substantial" head injury and a compound fracture in his ankle, Menck said.
The man was hit by a vehicle driven by a 29-year-old man from Browns Mills, Menck said.
No additional information was available on Sunday afternoon. The crash remains under investigation by the Lakewood Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
