Man critical after driving on wrong side of road with headlights off

A 30-year-old man was critically injured after crashing into a bus while driving on the wrong side of the road, authorities said Thursday.
The crash occurred Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. on Route 9 near Fernwood Drive.
Kevin Klaus, of Toms River, was driving south at a high rate of speed in the northbound lane of the road in a 2001 Honda Civic with its headlights off, said Ralph Stocco, spokesman for the Toms River Police Department.
Dan Gaskill, 51, of the Whiting section of Manchester, was driving a 2002 Eagle bus in the opposite direction and saw the car headed toward him, Stocco said.
Gaskill swerved to avoid a head-on collision but the Honda sideswiped the bus, Stocco said. The bus slammed into a utility pole and the Honda spun several times before hitting signs at the Winteringham Village apartments, Stocco said.
Gaskill was not injured.  Klaus was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he remains in critical condition, Stocco said.
