A car slammed into a utility pole early Sunday on Route 571, injuring the driver and cutting power to residents in the area.
A silver 2000 Chrysler Concorde was heading west on Route 571 around 7:17 a.m. when it left the road and struck a utility pole near Circle Drive, Manchester police Capt. Todd Malland said in a statement.
The collision caused the vehicle to overturn and land on its roof on the westbound shoulder of the roadway, Malland said. It also brought down several high-voltage electrical wires, disrupting power to residents in the Ridgeway section of Manchester for several hours. It’s unclear how many residents were without power Sunday morning.
The driver, a Jackson resident, was able to get out on his own, Malland said. He was treated at the scene for injuries to his right arm and declined to be taken to the hospital, the captain said.
Malland said it appears that driver distraction or fatigue led to the crash, which is still under investigation. No charges have been filed as of Monday afternoon.
The driver was wearing a seat belt, Malland said.
