Arrest made in Lakewood fatal hit-and-run crash

An arrest has been made in a fatal hit-and-run motor vehicle crash near Cedar Bridge Avenue and South Clover Street, Lakewood police confirmed on Sunday morning.
Det. Brad Frank from the Ocean County Prosectutor’s Office located a
vehicle in an apartment complex in Brick that matched the description of the one that fled the scene on Friday night in Lakewood, said Lakewood Police PIO Lt. Gregory Staffordsmith. When Det. Frank examined the car more closely it displayed damage to the front end consistent with striking the pedal cyclist.
The vehilce was seized for the purpose of obtaining a search warrant and after further examination, the items inside the vehicle led police to Jackson where they found and arrested, 55-year-old Jose Espinoza of Brick, Staffordsmith said.
Espinoza was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and causing death while driving with a suspended license and transported to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, Staffordsmith said.
As of Sunday morning, Lakewood police haven’t released the name of the deceased pending notification of the family.
A Lakewood Township woman has died from injuries she suffered Friday evening in a hit-and-run motor vehicle crash near Cedar Bridge Avenue and South Clover Street, police have confirmed. A passersby called authorities upon discovering the victim about 5:45 p.m. Friday, according to the Lakewood Police Department.
