2-year-old boy killed when aunt backed up car in Lakewood

A two-year-old is dead after being struck by a car at Woodlake Manor Complex.
The boy and his aunt were about to leave Thursday morning when she moved her vehicle to get a closer parking spot to the building to make it easier to load the car, Lakewood Police Lt. Gregory Staffordsmith said in an email.
She didn’t realize that her nephew followed her out and stood behind the car as she backed out
"She immediately called the police station for help but a neighbor, who heard the frantic woman, drove them to them to Brick hospital," Staffordsmith said.
The boy suffered "significant head injuries," according to police. He was taken to hospital where he died.
